Amprobe
AT-3500 Underground Cable and Pipe Locator System has been designed to
withstand tough field conditions. It is an ideal cable locator for
tracing underground energized and de-energized wires, cables, and metallic
pipes as deep as 16 feet.
Key
Features:
- Locates wires and cables powered and de-powered, as well as metallic pipes up to 16 feet underground in active mode.
- Works by implementing 3 modes of locating: passive power (50 / 60 Hz), passive radio (RF frequency), active - finding signal from transmitter generator.
- Fast locating via finding signal with semi-automatic gain control.
- Utilizes 33 kHz frequency for active mode – best signal for general type locating.
- Display with bar graph and audible signal helps to pinpoint to buried utilities.
Who should benefit the most from using Amprobe
AT-3500 cable locator?
Both
locating companies and contractors use it to locate accurately underground
lines. Typical applications include locating street light cables,
energized or de-energized lines, telephone cables or even gas lines, as well as
scanning an area to find, if there are live electrical cables there before
digging.
What
modes of locating should I use for best results?
Active
mode is the most accurate type of search to find and pinpoint to underground
facilities. In this mode, you need to
connect the signal transmitter to either wire or pipe, then follow the signal
with locator. We use this mode, when we
can find an end of underground facility and be able to connect to it. Active mode, when transmitter is connected to
a wire, provides the most precise locating, as the signal is the strongest
then.
Passive
power is a way to find energized wires or cables. Locator finds underground utilities with
power on them (50 or 60 Hz frequency).
Many electrical or contracting companies use this mode to make sure it
is safe to dig in a given location.
Passive
radio locating finds RF frequency that couples to buried metallic objects. It is a very general way of finding
underground cables, not used very often, as it is not as accurate as active
mode.
Here
are some hints on making cable locating easier:
When
working in a direct connection mode, make sure red test lead is connected to a
facility, and black test lead to a ground stake, and both make good contact.
Carry
a jug of water with you, so when a soil is dry you could pour some of it around
a ground stake to secure better contact of it with the ground. Signal gets stronger then.
The
Amprobe underground cable and pipe locator comes, as a complete kit ready to
use and includes receiver, transmitter, connecting cables and a ground
stake. Amprobe also provides and optional
inductive clamp model SC-3500, and optional pipe transmitter MLS55-3.
