The Top 5 Reasons to Choose a Testo Combustion Analyzers:
Industry leading CO sensor protection, Superior sampling hose,
Exceptional moisture/water control, Continuous temperature compensation,
and Accurate measurements with integrated NOx filters.
The Testo 310: A Solid Residential Combustion Analyzer
Testo 310 residential analyzer kit measures O2 and CO (up to 4,000 ppm) levels in the flue gas. Like almost all other analyzers, the CO2 reading is calculated. The 310 also measures draft, pressure, flue and ambient temperature, excess air, and combustion efficiency. This model is pre-programmed with five fuels and includes NOx filters for more accurate readings.
Despite being Testo’s entry-level analyzer, the Testo 310 incorporates several useful features:
- If the analyzer detects a CO concentration beyond the range of the sensor, the Testo 310 combustion analyzer will automatically turn off the pump which draws in the flue gas and rinse out the analyzer with fresh air. Both of these features extend the working life of the analyzer and sensors.
- The gas hoses are lined with Teflon, which improves their resistance to splitting, fraying, and kinking, thereby extending their life-span.
- The analyzer’s water trap can be emptied without disconnecting the hoses, a convenience which can save HVAC technicians precious time.
The Testo 310’s large and easy to read screen, simple menu navigation, and ease of operation has made it a favorite among HVAC techs . In addition, the large buttons make operating the analyzer easy, even when wearing gloves.
The Testo 310 is a great combustion analyzer for tuning, maintaining, safety checking, and commissioning residential furnaces and boilers.
We sell the Testo 310 Combustion Analyzer Kit for Residential Applications (P/N 0563 3100 01) which includes the 310 along with a rechargeable battery, CO and O2 sensors, a flue probe with tubing, a carrying case, a silicone tubing for pressure measurements, 5 spare particulate filters, power supply, five pressure plugs, and a calibration certificate.
For techs who want to print test results on-site, we also carry the Testo 310 Combustion Analyzer Kit with Printer (P/N 0563 3110 01), which adds with an infrared printer.
The Testo 300 Combustion Analyzer
As technicians, managers, and customers know, ensuring the proper functioning and high efficiency of heaters and boilers, and other combustion-driven machinery is essential. For the unfamiliar, combustion analyzers as a whole product category were created with this end in mind. Based on various particular applications, ideal fuel to air ratios have been established to get each fuel and combustion apparatus as close to perfect efficiency as possible.
Of course, outside of laboratory settings, perfect combustion is an impossibility. However, in the real world, the closer a technician can tune a heater or boiler to this ideal level, the better. Higher efficiency in this regard leads to reduced fuel costs, safer environments, longer equipment life, and less pollution. All of these are highly desirable states, and manufacturers of combustion analyzers have continued to innovate in terms of accuracy and ease-of-use in achieving these goals. Enter the Testo 300 Combustion Analyzer.
Testo 300
Now, most that work in the combustion analysis field will be familiar with Testo Combustion Analyzers. However, you might not yet be acquainted with the Testo 300 analyzer. This exciting new analyzer combines the trademark accuracy and reliability of Testo's combustion line with a whole bundle of recent technological advancements that use data-driven features to make reporting a breeze and all but foolproof the testing process. In this article, we're going to go over all this and more. When we're finished, you'll be a virtual expert on this powerful piece of testing equipment.
Testing Parameters
Before we get on to all the fancy technological and reporting features, let's have a look at the nuts and bolts on this meter since all the bells and whistles in the world do not mean that you can actually check combustion parameters well. Fear not though, the Testo 300 analyzer series does everything you need it to do for commercial/professional combustion work and then some.
The most important parameter to look for first when selecting a combustion analyzer is the range in ppm (parts per million) that it tests for carbon monoxide (CO). In most residential applications, you're not going to see levels anywhere above 2,000ppm. However, when you're dealing with commercial heaters and boilers, inefficient combustion can often put you in the CO range of up to 4,000ppm. So, it's essential for high-end professional work to have an analyzer that will work well in that range. As you might have guessed by now, the Testo 300 will deftly handle concentrations up to 4,000ppm. And of course, accuracy is a crucial factor as well, and this analyzer practically defines accuracy with precision down to ±20 ppm.
While CO is often the distinguishing factor in picking an analyzer, it's also important to have a variety of other measurement parameters at hand. The Testo 300 analyzer offers you a wide range of these other crucial testing abilities. We'll run through them all really quickly before moving on to the smart features and reporting capabilities.
The Testo 300 will test Oxygen from 0 to 21% volume at an accuracy of 0.2%. This value is critical in determining combustion efficiency, and although you can read it directly, the analyzer will incorporate this data in efficiency calculations for you. While we're on the subject, let's just mention here that the analyzer will do those efficiency calculations and display a value from 0-100% combustion efficiency.
You'll also be able to measure flue gas loss in percentage from 0-99, draft and pressure in inches of water, stack temperature, and finally ambient CO.
Now, if you're a technician regularly working in the combustion field, we don't need to give you a rundown on why you need the above capabilities, so you can just read over them and compare to competing instruments. You'll find that the new Testo 300 Series comes out well on top.
Some Kit Options and Configurations
Before we move on to the Smart features, we should note briefly that there is a range of kit options and sensor configurations that you can get when you purchase a Testo 300.
The first is the basic (although it's far from simple or low quality!) kit, which consists of the analyzer we've been describing, the flue probe, a carrying case, and filters. The next kit up the ladder is the Testo 300 Printer Kit. This is the same kit as the basic version but ads an infrared printer for those that need to get paper results right on the job. Now the advanced Smart reporting features give you options for generating data and printing later, so the printer options will be for folks that need to have a hard copy immediately.
Now, as you move up the line, you'll get options to add H2 compensated CO sensors that increase the range to over 30,000ppm for heavy industrial applications. Also, for more advanced residential and commercial work, you have the option to add a NOx sensor. There are also some special order configurations that you can purchase, so talk with a knowledgeable salesperson who can help you meet the demands of your particular job.
Smart Features
Now on to the part we've all been waiting for – Smart Technology. In this day and age, it's not enough anymore to simply have a reliable tool. Whether we like it or not, simple "old-school" meters aren't going to be able to deliver that "wow" factors to customers, and in a high-paced work environment, we all need the ability to handle data quickly and remotely. The Testo 300 combustion analyzer handles all this with ease.
The first feature of this kind that you'll notice when you start working with this meter is the touchscreen interface. This interface feels just the same as any smartphone, so almost all of us will be familiar with how to operate it. There's no delay from touching the screen so that you can navigate quickly and efficiently.
Something rather unique about the Testo 300 that you might not fully appreciate until you start testing boilers is that because the screen interface is 5 inches and takes up most of the front of the instrument, you can view all the testing parameters on one screen, live. Most other analyzers require scrolling through several pages to get a look at every value, and this can be a bit frustrating when you need to compare or monitor values that aren't on the same screen. The 300 solves this common problem.
There are also menus that are structured in a way that guides you through the relevant parameters and procedures in a testing job. This is sort of like the "wizard" function in a lot of software. It won't completely hold your hand or anything, but it just makes the procedure more focused and efficient. It's about convenience for the technician.
Finally, you have the ability to do advanced reporting and email reports directly via WiFi. The reporting features on this analyzer are very exciting and useful, so we'll dedicate a small section to them now so that we can cover all our bases.
Reporting Features
As Testo say themselves, in this new world of smart technology, merely having an accurate analyzer really isn't enough. Although it is crucial to have a reliable instrument (and that should still be your very first consideration), that isn't going to cut it in terms of leaving customers with that "wow" feeling or help you keep up with the fast-paced standards of today's combustion jobs. Luckily, the Testo 300 was specially designed to meet your reporting needs and give off that futuristic vibe that customers are frankly looking for these days.
Documentation can be created on-site with the Testo 300. For larger jobs or more complicated ones, this feature is a great benefit. You won't need to remember or make notes of what all your readings are, and then try to correlate them later on at the office. You can do all the annotation and labeling you need to do right on the intuitive touchscreen. However, one of the best tech features on this analyzer is the ability to use the dictation function to save time in the typing process. You're just not going to find many other analyzers with this kind of feature on the market today.
As for the reports themselves, they are a contractor's dream. First off, you'll get a built address book. So when you start a job, you can enter the customer name and address, along with the make, model, system type, serial number, fuel type, etc. of the heating appliance. If you need to return to a job in the future, all that information is stored on your analyzer, making quick work of getting oriented and generating reports.
Second, if you're working with the customer directly or a manager that can give approval, you can generate the report and have them confirm with their signature right on the analyzer screen. This signature approval will be added to the report, which is now ready to be saved or sent in Pdf format. If you're connected to a Wi-Fi network, you can send the report immediately via email to your customer or back to the office. These reports are stored on the device, too, so you have all your info readily available at all times. The icing on the cake for your reports is the ability to add your logo to the Pdf.
Final Thoughts
If you've taken the time to read through this article, you will see that the Testo 300 meets all the demands that are placed on a commercial-grade combustion analyzer, while stepping powerfully into the new world of Smart Technology. We can't think of many ways to improve upon what Testo has done with this device at this price point. So, if you're in the market for an analyzer or want to upgrade your old gear, you can't go wrong with this analyzer.
Residential and Commercial Combustion Analysis with the Testo 320
The next step up from the 310 is the 320. The 320 adds a color screen, a higher flue gas maximum measurement temperature, and a wider measurement range for draft and pressure readings. The 320, however, shares the same CO maximum limit as the 310 (4,000 ppm).
The Testo 320 combustion analyzer can be paired with a several optional probes for additional measurements: fuel gas leakage (up to 10,000 ppm of CH4 or C3H8), ambient CO2 measurement, higher resolution pressure measurement, ambient air CO levels, draft, pressure, and differential temperature.
The 320 includes an audible alarm that indicates when the water trap is full and an easy to understand color-based indicator for gas sensor diagnostics and monitoring.
Lastly, this analyzer can be used with Testo’s optional EasyHeat software, which streamlines combustion data management and generating reports. This software is also used to send the analyzer’s data through its USB port to a PC, but the 320’s built-in Bluetooth connectivity can also be used to transfer data to a computer, printer, or other device.
ValueTesters carries two combustion analysis kits based on the Testo 320. Testo 330 Handheld Industrial Analyzers:
For technicians looking for handheld analyzers for industrial combustion analysis, Testo offers one model in two flavors: the 330-1 and 330-2. Both variants measure O2, CO, and NO2, but the 330-2 H2-compensates the CO measurement and maxes out at 8,000 ppm (30,000 ppm with automatic fresh-air dilution). The 330-1’s CO limit is 4,000 (same as the 320 and 310) and doesn’t come with the ambient air dilution feature for boosting the measurement range.
Both the 330-1 and 330-2 feature long life CO sensors, which Testo claims last for up to 6 years (they are warrantied for 4), can be used with the Testo Combustion App and/or Testo EasyHeat, and have the option of NO measurement.
The 330-2 includes the following additional features not found on the 330-1:
- The ability to perform draft measurement at the same time as flue gas measurement
- Zeroing of measurements without removing the probe from the flue
- Averaging of the CO flue gas measurement over a 15 minute period, a big plus for solid fuel systems.
We have four kits based on the 330-1:

- The Testo 330-2G LL Kit 1 Commercial Combustion Analyzer with Color Screen and Bluetooth (0563 3372 70) adds a Bluetooth connectivity to the Testo 330-2G LL Kit 1.
- A great option when NO readings are required, the Testo 330-2G LL Kit 2 Combustion Gas Analyzer with Color Graphics NOx Kit (400563 3372) essentially adds the NO measuring upgrade (up to 3000 ppm) to the Testo 330-2G LL Kit 1.
Industrial, Wireless, and Remotely Operated Testo Combustion Analyzer: Testo’s 330i
With the 330i, Testo decided to move the color display—to your smartphone or tablet. This analyzer connects via Bluetooth to a tablet or smartphone and is controlled remotely via the Testo 330i App, which can also easily create reports for printing right at the job site or emailing to the customer later.
Technicians can read and save measurements up to 50 feet away from the analyzer itself. This is not only convenient for the technician, but can also improve the tech’s safety as the ability to monitor the combustion data away from the combustion equipment could reduce exposure to CO and other harmful byproducts of combustion.
Like the 330-2, the 330i boasts in-stack zeroing for draft and gas measurements, long life sensors, and a max CO level limit of 30,000 ppm via automatic ambient air dilution.
HVAC techs looking for a kit based on the latest in wireless combustion analysis, and have a tablet or smartphone with Bluetooth 4.0 and running either iOS 7.1 or Android 4.3 or newer, we offer three kits:

For quantifiable smoke measurements, we stock the Testo 308 Handheld Digital Smoke Meter (P/N 0563 3080). The 308 continuously samples and measures the soot content of the flue gas and automatically displays the smoke spot number without the use of look-up charts and any inconsistencies caused by manual pumping.
The smoke spot result is displayed on the large LCD display and can be sent to an IR printer, just like Testo’s combustion analyzers can. The 308 has an integrated condensate trap and a replaceable dirt filter. An additional soot filter can be added, which can provide physical proof of the smoke content.
The 308 kit we offer includes the smoke meter, soot filter, Li-Ion battery (with enough capacity for 45 separate measurements), and a spare Li-Ion battery.
