Overview
The AEMC Megohmmeter 6529 can check the safety of new electrical insulation on electrical equipment such as motors, pumps, and cables before they are powered up, as well as check existing insulation in a power-off condition or troubleshoot potential faulty insulation.
The AEMC 6529 functions as both an insulation tester and a basic multimeter with features intended to simplify its use. An intuitive pass/fail indication offering a blue/red backlight makes it very easy to identify defective conditions. A relative measurement function quickly recognizes potential problems. Multimeter functions include AC/DC, voltage, resistance, and continuity.

The True Megohmmeter 6529 includes a Differential Mode Resistance (DMR) or relative mode, typically used to check that all resistances of a given installation or run(batch) are within the allowed tolerance set by a user-programmable percentage. The DMR is a valuable feature comparing successive measurements to a previously measured “reference” resistance. A visual and audible alarm will occur, if the measurement falls outside a configured threshold percentage.

In addition, the 6529 can perform polarization index (PI) and dielectric absorption ratio (DAR) tests. The polarization index indicates the buildup of dirt or moisture, the deterioration of insulation, and whether the motor or generator is suitable for operation. Testing for the Polarization Index is a safety measure for electrical equipment.

For added user protection, the meter has live-circuit detection, which prevents an insulation test if a voltage greater than 30V is detected, and a capacitive voltage auto-discharge function.
The AEMC 6529 is designed with features and functions for use in the field: lightweight, compact, rugged and easy to handle, even when wearing gloves. The megohmmeter 6529 large digital two-line display provides clear and easy readings enhanced by a bright blue backlight, and the magnetic stand holds the meter to a metal surface or cabinet during a test.
