Amprobe AT-6010 Wire Locator Circuit Tracer
The Amprobe AT-6010 is an advanced wire tracer kit that combines a Receiver and a Transmitter designed to easily and accurately locate Energized and De-energized wires, breakers, and fuses. The Receiver easily detects the transmitted signal in wires, cables behind walls, ceilings and floors. The signal is generated by the transmitter which is connected to either an energized or de-energized wire or cable. The advantage of this method is the ability to trace the path of a particular wire using the Receiver. Since the signal is not present in any neighboring wires, the Receiver will detect only the wire that is connected to the Transmitter. The AT-6010 can safely work on energized circuits without the need to take any equipment offline.
The Receiver tip sensor is designed to trace wires in tight spaces plus has a LED that will blink when a signal is detected. The stronger the signal the faster the blinking. For best results while tracing energized wires align the groove on the tip sensor with the wire direction. Signal might not be detected if not properly aligned.
The Receiver also has an eight level adjustable sensitivity range to help with location of wires and breakers.
The transmitter works on Energized and De-Energized circuits up to 600 V AC/DC in Category I through Category III.
The transmitter utilizes two signal modes:
High side (HI) – The High Mode function is recommended for most wire tracing applications and Energized and De-Energized circuits including breaker location. This is the most commonly used tracing mode.
High Signal Mode
Loop mode – This mode should be used when working with closed loop De-energized circuits, such as shorted wire, shielded cable or De-energized wires that are grounded on the far-end. Loop mode only works on De-energized circuits. It is automatically disables when the Transmitter is connected to an Energized line with test leads.
The transmitter when turned on and connected to a circuit will automatically check for voltage. If the Transmitter detects dangerous voltage levels above 30 V AC/DC, the red voltage warning indicator will light up.
The Transmitter initiates a tracing signal as soon as it is turned on. Based on the detected voltage, the Transmitter will automatically switch to either:
Energized mode (30 to 600 V AC/DC) generating 6 kHz frequency or
De-energized mode (0-30 V AC/DC) generating 33 kHz frequency
To reduce coupling between wires, the Energized mode uses a lower transmission frequency than De-energized mode. To generate a reliable signal the De-energized mode required a higher frequency.
In addition to locating Energized and De-energized wires, identifying breakers and fuses, the AT-6010 trace non-metallic pipes and conduits, trace underground wires, trace low voltage wires and data cables, map a circuit with test leads, trace wires in metal conduit, find breaks and opens as well as trace breakers with light dimmers.
The AT-6010 is simple to use with a one button transmitter operation. The receiver has a large LCD screen with two digit readout and a bar graph and sound to easily locate the wire.
In addition, when there is no access to bare conductors, you can use the CT-400
(optional - not included) signal clamp for inducing a tracing signal on to the cable.
