Bacharach Residential Combustion Analyzer

The Bacharach InTech is an entry level flue gas analyzer for all HVAC service technicians, who want to analyze combustion efficiency to determine if furnaces, boilers or water heaters are working properly and safely.  Safety is very important, especially in residential environment, as people may be exposed to CO – (carbon monoxide) – when burners don’t work properly. There is also a financial aspect of furnaces not working properly – which is excessive fuel consumption resulting in elevated expenses.

Bacharach InTechs come with a library of 6 commonly used fuels in the American market, so choosing the correct fuel for an analysis only takes seconds.  The InTech includes O2 (oxygen) and CO (carbon monoxide) sensors to directly measure concentration of both gases in the flue gas.  HVAC professionals have an option to purchase and install the B-Smart pre-calibrated sensors themselves. These sensors can be replaced in the field without needing to send the analyzer in for service to the manufacturer or to a calibration lab.

The InTech series analyzers calculate combustion efficiency, CO2, and CO air free, in order to evaluate condition of the furnace and/or recommend any adjustments, as well as needed service.  The accuracy of Bacharach residential analyzers made them the most popular HVAC service tool used by most of state operated energy efficiency programs.

There are several sub-models within the Fyrite InTech series, such as 0024-8511, 0024-8512 and 0024-8523.  The table below show the different options included in each individual product.  In addition, the old numbering system showing sub-models as 24-8511, 24-8512 and 24-8523; has been revised by adding two zeros in the front of model number to 0024-8511 for example.  You may find both of numbering systems, when you search the Internet.

Model 0024-8511 includes the main instrument, Oxygen (O2) sensor, Carbon Monoxide (CO) sensor, soft carrying case, 12 in. probe with 6 ft. hose, water trap, particulate filter, 4 AA batteries and a user manual.

Model 0024-8512 includes the main instrument with a rubber boot, Oxygen (O2) sensor, Carbon Monoxide (CO) sensor, reporting software, hard-shell carrying case, 12 in. probe with 6 ft. hose, water trap, particulate filter, 4 AA batteries and a user manual, as well as IrDA wireless printer, USB cable, and 4 additional AA batteries.

Model 0024-8523 includes the main instrument with a rubber boot, Oxygen (O2) sensor, Carbon Monoxide (CO) sensor, hard-shell carrying case, 12 in. probe with 6 ft. hose, water trap, particulate filter, 4 AA batteries and a user manual.

The InTech model 0024-8510 ONLY comes with oxygen sensor, soft carrying case, 12 in. probe with 6 ft. hose, water trap, particulate filter, 4 AA batteries and a user manual. This analyzer does not calculate complete combustion efficiency, but shows if the proper amount of oxygen in in the flue gas.

The Bacharach Company also makes another series called Fyrite Insight Plus.  This series has the same basic features the InTech series, such as O2 and CO sensors and calculations of combustion efficiency, CO2 and CO air free; however, there are some additional features you might want to consider, when purchasing an analyzer.

First of all Insight Plus comes with a color graphic display, which makes reading and understanding the measurements easier, especially for those techs, who better understand visual data.  In addition, they measure the draft or pressure inside the flue stack, which is usefull in diagnosing and maintaining an efficient and safe HVAC system.  Moreover, the CO sensor will measure gas concentration up to 4,000 ppm, versus 2,000 ppm on the basic InTech and is equipped with NOx filter to preserve true CO readings.  The Insight Plus also comes with expanded memory slots – which will store up to 100 sets of test results – that can be stored in memory, recalled, displayed, downloaded and printed.  However, the next feature – built-in “Furnace Tuning Software” - might be the most important, especially for busy techs. The software help to analyze data, as well as get a handle on recommended fixes or corrections – a great tool to streamline job efficiency.

Another important difference is the 3 year warranty on the O2 sensor, creating a better value for all hard working HVAC service technicians. You also have the ability to customize the fuel library by adding two additional fuels to the 9 already there.

Note: Fyrite Insight Plus comes in two sub-models 0024-8517 (old number 24-8517) and 0024-8518 (old number 24-8518).
