With the introduction of the new HFO-1234yf refrigerant to the automobile market, vehicle manufacturers worldwide have developed new standards for vehicle A/C service. These standards require that the refrigerant purity be verified prior to the recovery of the refrigerant from a system. The acceptable refrigerant purity as defined by the SAE is a refrigerant mixture that contains 98. 0% or greater of R-1234yf or R-134a by weight. The Neutronics gas refrigerant identifier will meet the service needs of HFO-1234yf equipped vehicles.
The Neutronic automotive analyzer is certified to the SAE J2912 standard and connects directly to SAE J2843 and J3030 AC Service machines that have an external analyzer USB port. The Neutronics Legend refrigerant identifier control panel serves as the user interface. The control panel features three soft buttons, a full-color graphic LCD, and an alarm to alert of an instrument fault condition or contaminated refrigerant presence. The sample gas is admitted into the instrument through the sample hose and presented to the sensing device. After analysis, the refrigerant analyzer provides the user with a digital display of refrigerant purity and color cues. The refrigerant analyzer only considers the weights of the refrigerant and contaminates in the total mixture. Air is measured and displayed separately. Other contents such as refrigerant oil and dye are not considered contaminants.
Understanding Test Results: A green background will be displayed if the refrigerant sample is 98% pure or greater. In this case, the refrigerant is deemed suitable for standard recovery and reuse. A yellow background will be displayed if the refrigerant sample is between 95% - 98% pure. In this case, the refrigerant is not suitable for standard recovery and should not be reused. A red screen is displayed when the sampled refrigerant is less than 95% pure, presents hydrocarbons, or has large contamination. Caution should be taken when handling this vehicle or cylinder. It is important to note air is measured independently of the refrigerant. This means you could have a percentage of AIR present in a sample or refrigerant that totals or equals 100% refrigerant.
