Triplett 3388 Offers

The Triplett 3388 Fox & Hound is a high-performance yet affordable circuit tracing kit that uses Radio Frequency (RF) to trace hot or live electrical wires up to 1000' in length and buried wires up to 6 deep for both 120 and 220 VAC circuits as well as up to 250V DC. The Triplett 3388 can generate multiple tones, provide visual and audible continuity tests, and integrate the True Trace and TripLatch features while providing overload protection up to 250 VAC. Residential HVAC service technicians, electrical and telephone technicians as well as for service and maintenance of LAN lines would find this a valuable test tool for many wire tracing applications. The user must hold down the "Unlock" button in order to operate the On/Off Switch.

The Triplet HotWire Kit consists of a Fox transmitter (toner) and a Hound receiver (probe). The Fox transmits a Radio Frequency (RF) tracing signal along the length of the wire. The Hound senses the location and strength of this RF signal to identify the path of the wire. The Fox transmitter can be powered by a 9V battery for low voltage tracing or it can be powered by the High Voltage line it is toning. The HotWire Fox transmitter features a warble and pulse tone selection, provides a visual and audible continuity test, and has a True Trace option which helps to positively identify wires (more info on this feature can be found in the user manual), and a TripLatch test for improved wire tracing performance. There is a voltage LED indicator that lights up to warn the user that voltage is present and that proper precautions should be taken. It also has magnets on the back allowing it to be temporarily attached to an electrical panel, appliance, or junction box.

The features on the battery-operated HotWire hound receiver include an earphone jack that allows you to use headphones in a noisy environment or in quieter environments the speaker located on the back of the hound allows you to hear the amplification of the tracing signal. In addition, there is an adjustable volume/sensitivity thumbwheel to help reduce excess sound when tracing a circuit, a bright LED signal strength indicator that lights up when you are close to the tracing tone, and a bandpass filter to suppress unwanted frequencies. It also includes two white LED headlights to illuminate dark work areas and reduce fluorescent light noise.

The 3388 tracing circuit tone and probe kit can also be used to trace other common wires, whether powered or unpowered. It can be used to trace telephone and cable TV wires, LAN cables, security system wires, as well as other wires. The RF signal can be picked up through most building materials (wood, plaster, drywall, concrete, and brick) and can often be sensed through metal conduits. The wire tracer can even locate shallowly buried underground wires such as invisible fencing, cable TV, telephone, or low-voltage landscape lighting. The HotWire Fox can transmit both a Radio Frequency as well as an Audio Frequency (AF) signal to trace a wire. The AF signal can be sensed with other Triplett products such as the Triplett Hound, Hound 2, Hound 3, or Hound Jr for a broader range of tracing applications. The Triplett 3388 HotWire live wire circuit tracing kit comes in a protective heavy-duty case and includes both 24 and 60 test leads as well as some probes and alligator clips.
