Overview
The six buttons on the front allow you to control the important aspects of the meter’s functionality. You have the power button and next to it the A/C button which allows you to choose frequency weighting. This adjusts whether it’s focusing primarily on high frequencies or low frequencies, an important feature for omitting resonance. The up and down arrows are used to select which of the three measuring ranges low: 30 to 90 dB; Med: 50 to 110 dB; or High: 70 to 130 dB is best for your application. The meter visually displays an over and under alarm so you know if you are above or below the desired dB range you selected.
The Min/Max button is used to display the Maximum and Minimum sound levels recorded during the measurement process. You press the FAST/SLOW button to select the desired response time. If the sound source consists of short bursts, set the response to Fast and to measure average sound level, select Slow.
The R8060 sound level meter has a large LCD display with high contrast, and easy to read text. The display provides both a bar-graph reading, as well as a numerical value showing the current sound level in decibels.
The Reed R8060 sound meter is equipped with an AC/DC output jack to connect to chart recorders and dataloggers. Additionally, the sound meter has a tripod mount built right in so you can take accurate, verifiable measurements from a specific location.
The Reed Instruments R8060 sound level meter is ruggedly built and internally reinforced to prevent damage caused by drops or bumps. The R8060 sound meter is programmed to turn itself off after 30 minutes of inactivity and includes a low battery indicator on the screen.
In order to calibrate the R8060, an external calibrator that can provide a 94.0dB signal is required. If the meter has been exposed to extreme conditions or has not been used in a long period of time, the meter should be calibrated.
