Schonstedt Loki-U Multi-Frequency Pipe and Cable Locator for Utilities
Schonstedt Loki-U is a budget friendly, user friendly, multi-frequency pipe and cable locator targeted for wastewater municipalities and other utility companies. The Utilities model low 512 Hz frequency can be used to trace metallic pipes and the higher 82 kHZ frequency can support the detection of jointed pipes, and non-metallic pipes and ducts. The Schonstedt Loki combines new and innovative features such as Dual Mode, ShallowAlert™, and NoiseProtect™ that supports quick and easy detection and the safe uncovering of utility lines.

New features on the Loki include:
Dual Mode which allows the receiver to simultaneously scan for the transmitter’s signal and passive/power signals for quick and accurate sweeps before excavation.
ShallowAlert™ which is an audio (warbling tone) and visual warning ( asterisk flashes on screen) when a cable or pipe less than 12” deep is detected.
NoiseProtect™ which automatically manages the system gain to compensate for strong signals, e.g. from mains power or substations. This identifies and automatically rejects electrical interference that may otherwise overload the Loki receiver’s electronics. This feature allows the operator to locate pipes and cables in electrically noisy environments such as near power sub stations or near overhead high-voltage cables.
The Loki is equipped with four locate modes:
Transmitter Mode detects the transmitter signal imposed on buried utilities. There are several ways of applying the transmitter signal. This mode is usually the most reliable way to detect a pipe or cable.
Dual mode simultaneously searches for and identifies Transmitter and Power signals for a quick sweep.
Power Mode detects the electromagnetic fields generated by loaded power cables.
Sonde Mode detects the signal radiated by a compatible sonde.
The multiple frequencies allow the locator to be used in a wide variety of applications.
512 Hz: Built to support the long range locating of lower impedance cables, such as power lines.
8 kHz: This well rounded medium frequency is used to support general purpose locating.
82 kHz: An industry standard for the utility sector, this high frequency is used to locate well insulated pipes and cables, such as water pipes with non-metal joints.
131 kHz: A high frequency, targeted at the construction sector to assist the location of high impedance pipes and cables such as twisted-pair telecom cables or insulated pipe joints.
The Loki is available in two models. Loki-C
is designed for excavation and construction contractors with 3 frequencies 512 Hz, 8 kHz and 131 kHz as well as four operating modes for flexibility in locating different cable types in a variety of environmental conditions.
The Loki-U is the utilities model and is designed to locate and trace buried water/drain pipes and telecom ducts. The Loki-U provides the flexibility for locating different cable types in a variety of environmental conditions with three active frequencies include 512 Hz, 8 kHz, and 82 kHz as well as four operating modes. The Loki-U has 3 sonde frequencies to use in pipes made of plastic with no trace metal.
