The Tramex CMEX5 Concrete Moisture Encounter X5 is a non-destructive digital multi moisture meter for concrete floors and slabs providing instant and precise quantitative measurement for moisture content using Gravimetric testing as a baseline. The CMEX5 also features a built-in ambient Relative Humidity Sensor that measures Ambient Relative Humidity, Temperature, Dew Point, and Humidity Ratio of the environment. In addition, a plug in port is available for an optional wood pin probes or Relative Humidity Probes. The CMEX5 has Bluetooth that can connect it directly to the Tramex Meter App allowing the user to measure, map, store, and share results instantly on a mobile device. One of the most important factors to consider when working with concrete is the humidity conditions within the concrete itself. When concrete has too much moisture within it, it can bleed that moisture into other building materials, such as wood flooring, coatings, or structural support, comprising integrity. This is why it’s important to thoroughly evaluate a concrete slab with a concrete moisture meter before building on top of it.
How it Works
The Tramex CMEX5 concrete moisture meter uses a pin less (non-destructive) electrical impedance to detect and evaluate the moisture conditions within a slab or screed. The electrodes in the base of the instrument send a low frequency electronic signal that are affected by the presence of moisture into the material being tested. The moisture meter operates by the principle that a material’s impedance (resistance) to an electrical current varies inversely with that material’s moisture content. The meter determines the amplitude of a low-frequency alternating current, and uses this information to calculate the moisture content for concrete slabs and a comparative value for other cementitious floor screeds. This value is digitally displayed on large, easy to read screen.
The Tramex CMEX5 has four measuring modes:
Non-destructive (NDT) mode: The CMEX 5 concrete moisture meter uses a non-destructive measuring system designed specifically for concrete floors and slabs. The Tramex concrete moisture encounter X5 provides instant and precise quantitative measurements of the moisture content within target areas with a reading range between 0-6.9%. For concrete and other such cementitious substrates, the meter provides Carbide Method (CM) equivalent readings alongside comparative readings as per ASTM F2659. The CM measuring range for concrete is 0-4.3 while the Gypsum floor screed range is 0-12.
Hygrometer mode: The Tramex concrete moisture encounter features a built-in hygrometer that measures the ambient relative humidity (RH), temperature (T), dew point (DP) and humidity ratio (HR G/lb) of the environment. These measurements are always shown simultaneously at the bottom of the screen regardless of the mode or scale being used.
Equilibrium Relative Humidity mode (optional plug-in-probe):
The CMEX5 automatically changes to Hygrometer mode measuring relative humidity, temperature, dew point, and humidity ratio in structural material when an optional Hygro-i2
RH probe is plugged into the CMEX5 moisture meter using the RHIE2B Electronic Interface cable. Structural material such as a concrete slab can be tested using the in-situ method or RH Hood method as per ASTM F2170 and BS8201, BS8203. The Hygro-i2 RH probe is reusable and can be checked regularly for calibration.
Pin Meter mode (optional plug-in probe): By plugging in an optional heavy duty pin-type wood probe (HH14TP30), the Tramex CMEX5 converts to Pin Mode and becomes a resistance type pin meter for determining the moisture content of wood and wood based products. The Concrete Moisture Encounter X5 provides moisture content readings from 5% to 30% in wood. The Pin meter mode can also be used for drywall and WME (Wood Moisture Equivalent) readings and comes complete with a species table and adjustment chart for ensuring precise reading regardless of varying densities or temperatures.
The Tramex CMEX 5 is encased in a durable ergonomic body with rubber grips. The moisture meter also features a Hold button to “freeze” reading when taking measurements in hard to reach areas. An optional extension handle is available for more convenient floor reading eliminating the need for crouching or kneeling. With all the options available using this concrete moisture meter, it is the ideal all-in-one moisture meter for the flooring professional.
Tramex Meter App
The Tramex Meters App used with the Concrete Moisture Encounter X5 CMEX5 enables you to visualize live readings and examine moisture content data on an Android or iOS device. The enlarged visualization of moisture readings on the App is extremely helpful when using your Tramex Moisture meter on the extension handle. From the App, the concrete moisture test results can then be used to create moisture maps, reports, and charts for sharing. In addition, the Tramex moisture meter's Bluetooth connectivity to the Tramex app helps to GeoTag test results, create, save and share photos.
The CMEX5 has a built-in ambient sensor. All the relative humidity, temperature, dew-point, and humidity ratio data appear on the App screen. Additionally, the Thermal Conditions Chart and Psychometric Chart are available for this meter when using the app. The external probe reading like the Hygro-i2 RH probe and narrow RH probes are also displayed in the app. The external pin probe readings are also visible in the app when used with the CMEX5. The CMEX5 and App incorporate a selection of over 500 different wood species. There are 25 wood presets programmed in the CMEX5, but the presets can be replaced with different species chosen from the App.
