Overview

Roofing contractors cannot rely on just a visual inspection of a roof or wall to determine if moisture damage has occurred. Damage from excessive moisture can be hidden in the substrate or within the thickness of the wall or roof construction. If left untended, this excessive moisture can lead to rot, decay, and possible failure of the system or structure as well as a higher cost of repair.

The Tramex RWS is the instrument to use on walls and roofs to evaluate moisture conditions deep into the roofing material without puncturing or damaging the material. This non-destructive scanner uses electrical impedance to penetrate about 4” into the roofing surface to measure moisture content. The strength of the signal varies in proportion to the moisture level content of the material.

Roof evaluations are easy to perform with the multi-mode system on the Tramex RWS. The unit comes with one mode for built-up or single ply roofing and one mode for EIFS and foam type roofs. Both modes come with two levels of depth penetration depending on the different construction of the roofing materials being tested. In addition, the meter also has a sensitivity knob that helps graph the roof’s moisture areas and pin point the exact location of any leak.

The Tramex RWS is easy to use. Simply turn the unit on, select the mode, select the range, and hold the grab handle while firmly placing it on the roof or wall to be tested. It is important to press the RWS firmly on the surface to be tested to make sure the electrodes on the bottom are in full contact with the roofing material for an accurate reading. The reading is clearly and instantly shown on the analog display.

This easy to use, lightweight, battery operated roof and wall scanner includes a hold button to “freeze” the data for areas that hard to see, a battery check button, and a telescopic handle for using on roofs. It also complies with ASTM D7954.

Material Range and depth

Price is a little steep but you are paying for the ability to test a ton of materials and insulation types etc. also the 4 inch depth for a non destructive reading is really good.

Solid and technical

This is a very nice item. Can manually zero out the unit so you know the readings are the most accurate. Deep penetration for non destructive as well.

professional grade

Great meter to evaluate moisture problems in roofs, as well as to pin-point to where leaks come from. I said - professional grade - as you can adjust depth and sensitivity levels for more accurate readings. Those features make troubleshooting easier.
