Each multi-layer ceramic capacitor, or MLCC, consists of several hundred thin ceramic sheets arranged in layers to form electrodes that can store charges when a voltage is applied. Advances in laminating technology have dramatically increased the capacitance of ceramic capacitors, which in the past were limited to low-capacitance designs. Today, the typical mobile phone, computer, or LCD television contains anywhere from several hundred to 1,000 MLCCs.
